Our first post

We started CollectiveMetrics because we believe there should be more objective measurement available about difficult “trust”-related issues/problems (for example in privacy, security, identity, online safety). I talk to people all the time who are in these domains, working at companies where they are solving difficult problems, and often doing a great job with little or no recognition. How can a third party measure things here, and help highlight good work?

I’ve also seen failures big and small in these areas. Sometimes, things that are awful but affect only a small number of users get far more attention than more serious and sustained problems that affect a larger number of people. In a world of too-much-data and complex issues, what’s the right data to look at and how? What are the right questions to ask about metrics and related information, and when/how?

We’ll take a look at a variety of problems and figure out what some good ones are to measure - and I know sometimes this can be driven by the availability of data or opportunities to measure, so while we’ll do our best to “de-bias” based on things being easy to count we know it will happen.

This is obviously only the start of the conversation we want to have with your help (so please reach out to us too!) & we look forward to sharing more about our thoughts, plans and approach soon.

Our mission is to transform complex data into free and accessible insights, empowering global communities to understand and improve the systems that shape their lives.
